Are You From Kenya? .01

"Are you from Kenya?", I asked. She replied, "No, I'm from D.C." with an American accent. It was a sunny morning on the second day of December and I was drawn to her beautiful smile. I was expecting another Kenyan to join our Kenyan contingent of three, hence I had to 'look' for an ice-breaker. After realizing my 'mistake' I got back to concentrating on having my breakfast. I engaged my Kenyan house-mate on some political banter as I was thinking what the day had for us.

After having my breakfast, I got focused on getting in for the morning session yet I could not take my mind away from that initial smile. I chatted away with one of my colleagues who was Swiss while basking in the morning sun; we both did this as we waited for our colleagues to get ready for the morning session. We delved into the role of the Swiss during WW2 and how the foundations of the modern nation of Switzerland were laid. As we were chatting, guess what? She joined us! I was like, "As in seriously?". I decided to throw down the gauntlet and went on the offense, "Aha, you are from D.C., my name is Kasera from Kenya and my pal is Swiss. The professor informed us of the permission you sought since you got delayed in Amsterdam." "How was your flight? When did you land here?", I inquired. She did look jet-lagged and her smile inasmuch as it was genuine, it betrayed her being tired.

After chatting while basking for a while, we all went in for the morning session. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of a very exciting journey
